Sun Safety

At Daffodil Welsh Language Childcare, we recognise the importance of sun safety for the well-being of all children under our care. Recent scientific research highlights the potentially harmful effects of sun exposure on young and delicate skin, prompting us to take every possible measure in collaboration with you to ensure your child's protection.

To facilitate this, we kindly request your assistance in providing the following items, and explain how they will be used to protect your child:

What we need

Sunscreen

  • Please provide a high-factor sunscreen specifically formulated for your child's skin type. This serves as a crucial line of defence against harmful UV rays, preventing sunburn and reducing the risk of long-term damage. Please ensure that it is clearly labelled with your child's name.

We ensure that your child applies the sunscreen provided by you before venturing outdoors. Regular reapplication, in accordance with the product's instructions, maintains effective protection throughout the day.

Sun Hat

  • A sun hat is essential to shield your child's delicate face and neck from direct sunlight. Whether it's a legionnaires hat with its extended brim or a cap or bucket hat, wearing a sun hat ensures your child's comfort and safety during outdoor activities.

Your child is encouraged to wear the sun hat whenever outdoors, especially during peak sunlight hours.

Protective Clothing

  • Lightweight tops, cardigans, or t-shirts with long sleeves provide additional protection against UV radiation, particularly on sensitive areas such as the arms and shoulders.

Water Bottle

  • In line with the NMS, water will be always available, however we request your child is sent with a Water bottle clearly labelled with your Childs name.

Regular hydration is vital to prevent dehydration and maintain overall well-being, particularly in warm weather. We encourage your child to drink water frequently throughout the day, ensuring adequate hydration during outdoor playtime.I

Further information

During outdoor activities, we actively seek out shaded areas to minimise direct sunlight exposure. Whether it's under trees, canopies, or using portable sunshades on the pushchair, we create a shaded environment for your child's comfort and safety.

To facilitate these sun safety measures effectively, we kindly request your consent by signing a form authorising us to apply the sunscreen provided by you. Your partnership in this endeavour is invaluable, and together, we can ensure that your child enjoys outdoor activities safely, without compromising their skin health.
